The essentials in 30 seconds
3 months
to join an insurer after you arrive in Switzerland.
Day 1
Premiums are due from your arrival date, even if you join later.
300 → 2500
CHF annual deductible, your choice. The higher it is, the lower your premium.
30 Nov.
Deadline to switch insurer for 1 January.
2027 season: read before 30 November
The retroactive trap
You arrive on 1 December and join on 1 March? Your insurer will bill December, January and February in one go. In Geneva that can exceed CHF 1,800. Set that amount aside as soon as you arrive, or join straight away.
Simulator
Which deductible should you choose?
When you see a doctor, you first pay your deductible. Beyond that you still pay 10% of the costs (the co-payment), capped at CHF 700 a year. But the higher your deductible, the lower your premium. Enter your premium and your costs: the simulator adds it all up and shows you the cheapest deductible for you.
Simple rule: rarely ill, deductible 2,500 and you save on the premium. Regular medical follow-up, deductible 300.
Default: the average adult premium in Geneva in 2027. Replace it with yours.
Annual amounts for an adult, in CHF. Premium discount at the legal maximum (70% of the extra risk), like most insurers.
